## 1Purpose

f07mnc computes the solution to a complex system of linear equations
 $AX=B ,$
where $A$ is an $n×n$ Hermitian matrix and $X$ and $B$ are $n×r$ matrices.

## 2Specification

 #include
 void f07mnc (Nag_OrderType order, Nag_UploType uplo, Integer n, Integer nrhs, Complex a[], Integer pda, Integer ipiv[], Complex b[], Integer pdb, NagError *fail)
The function may be called by the names: f07mnc, nag_lapacklin_zhesv or nag_zhesv.

## 3Description

f07mnc uses the diagonal pivoting method to factor $A$ as
order uplo $\mathbit{A}$
Nag_ColMajor Nag_Upper $UD{U}^{\mathrm{H}}$
Nag_ColMajor Nag_Lower $LD{L}^{\mathrm{H}}$
Nag_RowMajor Nag_Upper ${U}^{\mathrm{H}}DU$
Nag_RowMajor Nag_Lower ${L}^{\mathrm{H}}DL$
where $U$ (or $L$) is a product of permutation and unit upper (lower) triangular matrices, and $D$ is Hermitian and block diagonal with $1×1$ and $2×2$ diagonal blocks. The factored form of $A$ is then used to solve the system of equations $AX=B$.

## 5Arguments

1: $\mathbf{order}$Nag_OrderType Input
On entry: the order argument specifies the two-dimensional storage scheme being used, i.e., row-major ordering or column-major ordering. C language defined storage is specified by ${\mathbf{order}}=\mathrm{Nag_RowMajor}$. See Section 3.1.3 in the Introduction to the NAG Library CL Interface for a more detailed explanation of the use of this argument.
Constraint: ${\mathbf{order}}=\mathrm{Nag_RowMajor}$ or $\mathrm{Nag_ColMajor}$.
2: $\mathbf{uplo}$Nag_UploType Input
On entry: if ${\mathbf{uplo}}=\mathrm{Nag_Upper}$, the upper triangle of $A$ is stored.
If ${\mathbf{uplo}}=\mathrm{Nag_Lower}$, the lower triangle of $A$ is stored.
Constraint: ${\mathbf{uplo}}=\mathrm{Nag_Upper}$ or $\mathrm{Nag_Lower}$.
3: $\mathbf{n}$Integer Input
On entry: $n$, the number of linear equations, i.e., the order of the matrix $A$.
Constraint: ${\mathbf{n}}\ge 0$.
4: $\mathbf{nrhs}$Integer Input
On entry: $r$, the number of right-hand sides, i.e., the number of columns of the matrix $B$.
Constraint: ${\mathbf{nrhs}}\ge 0$.
5: $\mathbf{a}\left[\mathit{dim}\right]$Complex Input/Output
Note: the dimension, dim, of the array a must be at least $\mathrm{max}\phantom{\rule{0.125em}{0ex}}\left(1,{\mathbf{pda}}×{\mathbf{n}}\right)$.
On entry: the $n×n$ Hermitian matrix $A$.
If ${\mathbf{order}}=\mathrm{Nag_ColMajor}$, ${A}_{ij}$ is stored in ${\mathbf{a}}\left[\left(j-1\right)×{\mathbf{pda}}+i-1\right]$.
If ${\mathbf{order}}=\mathrm{Nag_RowMajor}$, ${A}_{ij}$ is stored in ${\mathbf{a}}\left[\left(i-1\right)×{\mathbf{pda}}+j-1\right]$.
If ${\mathbf{uplo}}=\mathrm{Nag_Upper}$, the upper triangular part of $A$ must be stored and the elements of the array below the diagonal are not referenced.
If ${\mathbf{uplo}}=\mathrm{Nag_Lower}$, the lower triangular part of $A$ must be stored and the elements of the array above the diagonal are not referenced.
On exit: if ${\mathbf{fail}}\mathbf{.}\mathbf{code}=$ NE_NOERROR, the block diagonal matrix $D$ and the multipliers used to obtain the factor $U$ or $L$ from the factorization $A=UD{U}^{\mathrm{H}}$, $A=LD{L}^{\mathrm{H}}$, $A={U}^{\mathrm{H}}DU$ or $A={L}^{\mathrm{H}}DL$ as computed by f07mrc.
6: $\mathbf{pda}$Integer Input

7: $\mathbf{ipiv}\left[\mathit{dim}\right]$Integer Output
Note: the dimension, dim, of the array ipiv must be at least $\mathrm{max}\phantom{\rule{0.125em}{0ex}}\left(1,{\mathbf{n}}\right)$.

• if ${\mathbf{uplo}}=\mathrm{Nag_Upper}$ and ${\mathbf{ipiv}}\left[i-2\right]={\mathbf{ipiv}}\left[i-1\right]=-l<0$, $\left(\begin{array}{cc}{d}_{i-1,i-1}& {\overline{d}}_{i,i-1}\\ {\overline{d}}_{i,i-1}& {d}_{ii}\end{array}\right)$ is a $2×2$ pivot block and the $\left(i-1\right)$th row and column of $A$ were interchanged with the $l$th row and column;
• if ${\mathbf{uplo}}=\mathrm{Nag_Lower}$ and ${\mathbf{ipiv}}\left[i-1\right]={\mathbf{ipiv}}\left[i\right]=-m<0$, $\left(\begin{array}{cc}{d}_{ii}& {d}_{i+1,i}\\ {d}_{i+1,i}& {d}_{i+1,i+1}\end{array}\right)$ is a $2×2$ pivot block and the $\left(i+1\right)$th row and column of $A$ were interchanged with the $m$th row and column.

The $\left(i,j\right)$th element of the matrix $B$ is stored in
• ${\mathbf{b}}\left[\left(j-1\right)×{\mathbf{pdb}}+i-1\right]$ when ${\mathbf{order}}=\mathrm{Nag_ColMajor}$;
• ${\mathbf{b}}\left[\left(i-1\right)×{\mathbf{pdb}}+j-1\right]$ when ${\mathbf{order}}=\mathrm{Nag_RowMajor}$.

## 7Accuracy

The computed solution for a single right-hand side, $\stackrel{^}{x}$, satisfies an equation of the form
 $(A+E) x^=b ,$
where
 $‖E‖1 = O(ε) ‖A‖1$
and $\epsilon$ is the machine precision. An approximate error bound for the computed solution is given by
 $‖x^-x‖1 ‖x‖1 ≤ κ(A) ‖E‖1 ‖A‖1 ,$
where $\kappa \left(A\right)={‖{A}^{-1}‖}_{1}{‖A‖}_{1}$, the condition number of $A$ with respect to the solution of the linear equations. See Section 4.4 of Anderson et al. (1999) for further details.
f07mpc is a comprehensive LAPACK driver that returns forward and backward error bounds and an estimate of the condition number. Alternatively, f04chc solves $Ax=b$ and returns a forward error bound and condition estimate. f04chc calls f07mnc to solve the equations.

## 8Parallelism and Performance

f07mnc makes calls to BLAS and/or LAPACK routines, which may be threaded within the vendor library used by this implementation. Consult the documentation for the vendor library for further information.
Please consult the X06 Chapter Introduction for information on how to control and interrogate the OpenMP environment used within this function. Please also consult the Users' Note for your implementation for any additional implementation-specific information.

The total number of floating-point operations is approximately $\frac{4}{3}{n}^{3}+8{n}^{2}r$, where $r$ is the number of right-hand sides.
The real analogue of this function is f07mac. The complex symmetric analogue of this function is f07nnc.
