Tech Tip: Sparse Linear Algebra
The sparse iterative solvers in the NAG Fortran 77 Library are designed to offer both ease-of-use and flexibility. If you require a fast solution to a sparse linear system, and are not interested in the details of the solver, you can call one of the black-box routines in Chapter F11. Alternatively, if you are a specialist in this field and wish to use your own pre-conditioner or storage format, you can use the basic iterative solver suite in the same chapter. This offers increased flexibility.
By using the basic routines to simulate the functionality of the black-box routine and then gradually introducing variations to the algorithm, you can check your results and then implement a whole range of different solvers.
