NAG C Library Mark 7 Doubles Functionality for Modeling, Simulation, and Advanced Statistics

Mark 7 of the C Library now offers twice the functionality of its predecessor with nearly 400 new functions. If you are developing applications for complex modeling, simulation, or using advanced statistics, Mark 7 is likely to have the routines that can reduce your development time and assure accurate results. Whether you work in C, C++, Java, or .Net environments, NAG can provide the interface you need to be productive. Learn more about what’s new in Mark 7 of the C Library here.

Mac OS X - NAG Delivers Fortran 95 Compiler

Though we didn’t actually see anyone dancing in the streets, we’ve heard that Mac OS X users were quite pleased at the recent release of the NAGWare f95 Compiler for Mac OS X. Mac OS X developers and users in the scientific and technical computing community can now benefit from this powerful and flexible development tool. The f95 Compiler is the first of several products NAG expects to bring to the Mac OS X platform over the next several months. Learn more here or get a free 30-day trial. Finally, see the next item to learn how you can get a great deal on this compiler for a limited time.

Data Mining for Drug Discovery - A Work in Progress

When NAG introduced its Data Mining Components in late 2001, it was with encouragement from customers in areas as diverse as consumer analytics and drug discovery. We recognized that there was much pioneering work to be done to bring these techniques into the mainstream of business and scientific applications. Recently, we were consulted by one of the foremost publications in the drug discovery field for an article about the emergence of data mining for drug discovery. There are a number of issues identified in the article, many of which could apply equally to other applications of data mining. Learn more here from the July/August 2002 issue of Drug Discovery & Development.

Business Performance Management - The Role of Analytics

The ability to quickly convert volumes of business data, from diverse sources into optimized business decisions, is becoming a key differentiator among companies in more difficult economic times. Recently, some of the industry leaders in business analytics, data warehousing, and business intelligence assembled online at DataWarehouse.com for a novel online conference and trade show. The show is available 24X7 at the DataWarehouse.com web site (you will need to register to see the online narrated presentations). NAG’s contribution, authored by Stephen Langdell and Rob Meyer, is entitled "Business Analytics in an Enterprise Environment" and discusses how to go beyond the "one shot" data mining project.

November 16-22, 2002, Baltimore Convention Center
NAG will again exhibit this fall at the largest high performance computing conference held in the U.S. Join us and over 5,000 other professionals from research universities, government labs, and other commercial organizations. Read more about this upcoming conference at the SC2002 website.

Tips & Hints - NAG DLLs and .NET

There are some fundamental differences between VB6 and the next generation, VB.NET, as they affect interfacing to NAG Fortran routines. In this article, NAG’s very own David Sayers talks about how NAG users will be able to take advantage of NAG library power and functionality with both VB6 and VB.NET.

About The NAG Ping

The NAG Ping is an occasional newsletter of technical tips, product information and discussions of technical computing topics. Its principal audience is in North America though it has readers throughout the world. It is the sister publication of the NAGNews, produced by our colleagues at NAG Ltd primarily for those in Europe and elsewhere outside North America.

The NAG Ping is named in memory of Mike Muuss, formerly of the Army Research Laboratory. Among the creative and useful works of his life was the "ping" program to test network connection. It was written by Mike in 1983 to help diagnose problems on his network. The name is tied to Mike's earlier work in sonar modeling and echolocation. To learn more, click here.
