I
am very pleased with the ASLI program. While several departments
banded together to cover the cost of the license, I have seen
steady growth in the number of participating departments. Licensing
is structured to make the software easy to install and use.
Technical support has been quick to answer our questions. I
would strongly encourage other schools to join the ASLI program
as a very affordable way to gain access to excellent software.

Academic Site License Program
The ALSI
program from Numerical Algorithms Group is designed to provide higher
education institutions with access to NAG's world class scientific software
products. Under this unique site license, faculty, staff, and students
from multiple departments can take advantage of the NAG suite of scientific
and mathematical software products, continuously proven and enhanced over
the last 25 years, all for an extremely low annual fee. The NAG ASLI software
runs on the most popular UNIX workstations, Windows 95, Windows NT, and
high performance computing environments.
ASLI Packages
The NAG ASLI program is packaged in two parts. The core ASLI includes
numerical libraries, portable compilers, scientific 3D visualization tools
built on open standards, computer algebra, and statistics software.
The ASLI
High Performance Computer Option (ASLI-HPCO) includes everything found
in the core ASLI, plus library software for Symmetric Multi Processor
(SMP) computers.
Environments
The core ASLI covers the following UNIX workstations and PC environments:
Apple MAC OS X; Alpha UNIX; Hewlett Packard 9000 HP-UX; IBM RS/6000 AIX; Silicon Graphics IRIX;
SUN Solaris; Intel LINUX; Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP
The ASLI-HPCO (High Performance Computer Option) covers the following machines:
Alpha 4000; Alpha 8000; HP Convex; IBM SP; SGI Challenge; SGI Power Challenge; SGI Origin 2000;
Sun Ultra Enterprise
The ASLI-Data Mining (Data Mining Option) covers the following machines:
Windows DLL; Linux (Intel); Sun Solaris
Software Products
The
following products are included in the Core ASLI:
- NAG
FORTRAN 77 Library
- world's largest mathematical subroutine library, containing 1,152
highly efficient, user-callable numerical subroutines
- NAG
C Library - a suite of 275 numerical routines designed and written
in C, covering a wide range of mathematical and statistical functions.
- NAG
FORTRAN 90 Library - a library of routines designed to take
advantage of the powerful new features of FORTRAN 90
- NAG
Parallel Libraries - libraries of numerical procedures produced
specifically for distributed memory parallel machines or networks of
workstations; available in MPI and PVM versions
- NAG
FORTRAN Compiler - the world's first compiler to support
the FORTRAN 90 ANSI/ISO standard; robust and stable.
- IRIS
Explorer - an object oriented scientific programming system
for visualizing, manipulating, and analyzing data, and for developing
scientific and engineering applications quickly and intuitively. Based
on OPEN/GL, and OPEN Inventor.
The ASLI - High Performance Computer Option
includes:
- All software
identified in the core ASLI above.
- NAG
FORTRAN SMP Library - is aimed at users who wish to make efficient
use of the increased processing , power and salability of Symmetric
Multi-Processor (SMP) computers. This library offers significant speed
improvements of the standard NAG FORTRAN 77 Library and over the Hardware
Vendor's LAPACK implementations that benefit over 50 routines mainly
in the areas of Linear Algebra, FFTs, and Multivariate Statistics. In
addition, the NAG FORTRAN SMP Library includes the full functionality
of the NAG FORTRAN 77 Library.
The ASLI - Data Mining Option
includes:
- NAG
Data Mining Components are specifically developed for the rigours of data
mining, our Data Mining Components - statistical and machine learning software -
are robust, reliable and accurate. Easy to integrate and use, NAG components can
be used at each stage of the modelling process - from data cleaning through data
transformation to model building.
