Universitad de Cantabria (Santander, Spain)

The team at Santander is led by Tomas Recio, and is the main centre for real algorithmic geometry in Spain and one of the foremost in Europe. Recio has actively participated in international symposia from 1981, and is joint editor of Contemporary Mathematics, the main journal in this area.

The team consists of 14 researchers, working mainly in the areas of real algebraic geometry and algorithms. However, with the increase in applications of the theoretical aspects of Algebra and Geometry, some members of the group are investigating the relationship between real algebraic geometry and computer science, to study applications in symbolic computation, geometric design and robotics.

The team collaborate actively with other research groups in France, Italy, the UK, Germany, the USA, and Argentina. It was one of the main partners in the PoSSo project. It brings expertise to the algorithms work package in the particular area of real solvers.
