NAG announces availability of Fortran 95 Compiler for Mac OS X
Oxford UK – July 2002, the world's leading provider of mathematical and statistical algorithms, the Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG), announces that the NAGWare f95 Fortran compiler is now available on the Mac OS X platform. Mac OS X developers and users in the scientific and technical computing community can now benefit from this powerful and flexible development tool. NAG’s f95 compiler is the first of several products that NAG expects to bring to the Mac OS X platform over the next few months.
"The technical innovation and performance of Mac OS X as well as Apple’s commitment to serve the scientific and technical market has really impressed us," said Rob Meyer, president of NAG’s U.S. affiliate, NAG, Inc. "It has been nearly ten years since NAG has offered products on the Mac, and we’re excited to announce the first of a line of new products from NAG on Mac OS X that will be available in the coming months."
"UNIX-based Mac OS X combines new and open standard technologies that make it the most stable, powerful and interoperable desktop operating system available," said Ron Okamoto, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "Recognized industry leaders like NAG are easily bringing their applications to Mac OS X, clearly demonstrating that the Mac is a serious player in the scientific and technical computing community."
The NAGWare f95 Compiler supports the Fortran 95 language in its entirety, High Performance Fortran, and legacy Fortran 77 code. Originally developed as the world’s first Fortran 90 Compiler, f95 is robust, thoroughly tested, and incorporates compilation and run-time debugging features that can significantly reduce development time. It also includes features of the Fortran 2000 standard for Allocatable Components and for IEEE Floating Point Exception Handling. Finally, the NAG f95 compiler recognizes many common extensions for Fortran 77 to provide support for legacy code.
With over thirty years of experience in developing mathematical and statistical components, compilers and tools plus 3D data visualization software, NAG and its products have a worldwide reputation for accuracy, robustness and reliability. Over 10,000 organisations spanning the globe rely on NAG’s software and services to enhance their applications. NAG software is used by business, industry and education to solve problems, however complex, in areas such as research, engineering, life and earth sciences and financial analysis. NAG has its headquartered in the UK and has offices in Germany, Japan and North America, plus distributors worldwide.
